All you can eat spare ribs night at The Paddock

Yesterday we had dinner at The Paddock. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they have all you can eat spare ribs night for $13. The ribs are served with one side order and we ordered french fries and a salad on the side. You get large portions of ribs and the ribs are well prepared. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is nice located, overlooking the cruise ships.

Best food ever!

Found this place by accident - it is really small and off the main road. What a lucky accident. It has only been open since December but already you can tell it will be a success. The owner and his son-in-law, the cook, know what they are doing. There are only about a dozen tables, half inside, half under a patio. When we were there they were packed and the solo waitress, Heidi, was doing an amazing job despite being overwhelmed. At one point, the owner pulled some additional tables our of a shed to seat some walk-in customers on the patio. The focus is on lobster but there are non-lobster items on the menu. The bouillabaisse my husband and daughter had was the best ever. Large pieces of local fish, mussels, and lobster in a flavorful but not overpowering broth. I usually don't like this soup, but I could have eaten and entire bowl myself. The lobster salad had large chunks of lobster with an unique vinaigrette that had hints of celery, lemon and balsamic. The broiled lobster tail was outstanding, perfectly seasoned. We tried both the lobster linguine and the risotto and both were very tasty but a bit too rich for us to finish the entire portion. Overall, we loved it so much we came back for a second night. This is definitely a must eat place in Palm Beach. As word spreads it will only get busier so be sure to make reservations. An Island Gem

This is not just amazing food but also a culinary experience. The meal starts with cocktails outside. Do not miss this. It is a great chance to mingle with your fellow diners. It is a small restaurant, with only 18 seats. This means personalized attention and a festive atmosphere at the communal table that circles the food prep area. Most seats also face the restaurant namesake, a huge red gas firewall. Our dinner was inventive with excellent wine parings. I recommend this place not just for the food but also for the good company of the two owners Fred and Paul.

Best Steak Ever!

If you are planning a trip to Aruba, you MUST go to El Gaucho. El Gaucho brings in steaks from Argentina and they serve thee steak is fresh. The prices are good considering how good the steak is. Service is great and cook your food to perfection. Every year my family goes to Aruba and we make sure we go to El Gaucho either on the first night on a welcome to Aruba feast or the last night to eat the great vacation we had and I can't wait until another 24 days when I will be able to go again.

Great Burgers

Casual Resort restaurant located pool side at La Cabana BRC Great burgers with waffle fries. You get a large burger cooked the way you want it with a large order of waffle fries included for $ 10.00. These burgers are big enough to share. The menu is diverse with something for everyone. All you can eat fajitas on Monday Nights.

They missed the mark this time

We are repeat visitors to this charming restaurant. My wifes schnitzel was outstanding. I ordered the recommended roasted duck. The duck was presented well but could not be cut with a table knife nor with a steak knife It was dry and had to be sent back.I ordered the veal chop as an alternative. When presented it looked like it had been given to the dog and then retrieved when a customer ordered it. It was partially in pieces and highly seasoned. Stick to the schnitzel. This was a disappointing visit.

Not Worth the Hype

Highly overrated and expensive. Double Burger is just two smaller burgers put together. Mushrooms are canned. Onions rings came out cold and doughy. Owner volunteered to re-do the onion rings and they were better the 2nd time. All sides are extra. 1 double burger & 1 regular burger, with side of fries and side of onion rings, 2 sodas was over $ 30.00.

New in town

We went to try this place at the recommendation of hearing good things from people we encountered but hadn't tried it yet. There was about 12 tables, of which 4 were outside. "Mood" music played through-out the meal- very nice. For appetizers, we tried the lobster croquettes and the crab cakes. Very tasty and nicely prepared. Main course was Filet Mignon and Lobster tail on linguini. Excellent presentation of food. Both entrees had mixed veggies and the lobster was good but perhaps slightly overcooked and the Filet Mignon was excellent. Being only 3 weeks new, there are some modifications that can be made, like having bleu cheese dressing for a side salad. The menu not only contains lobster dishes but an array of alternates of other seafood, and meat entrees. Staff is very attentive, good beverage selection, and the dessert (pistachio chocolate cake) was awesome! We dined outside and indirectly viewed a nice sunset. Next time, will most likely dine inside. Nice color scheme and it seems that this restaurant will continue to do well and get better with time. We look forward to returning to try their lunch menu. A "must-try" recommendation.

Nice casual place but can be noisy!

As a sports bar, there are TV's all over the place. Good place for a casual meal in general unless there is a particular sports event when it can get somewhat crowded. There's memorabilia of autographed sportswear on the walls. Menu seems to address all age groups. Good food overall, accomodating with requests for extra ingredients or putting certain ingredients on side. It can get a little noisy which makes conversation a challenge, depending on the event and customers, but overall it's not a major problem.

Bring your salt & pepper shakers!

This restaurant is usually a staple on our visits to Aruba. We had the tapas selection which provides a nice sampling of a variety of foods. Their Sangria is home-made, and was free with the tapas special. If you bring a set of s&p shakers they don't have in their collection (and they are lined up inside and out against the walls), they offer a free glass of wine. Attentive servers. Dining option of inside or out.

Great ambiance!

We were seated in an intimate window nook area and they have people who were assigned specific tasks for seating, taking beverage orders, serving the food, offering coffee and dessert, etc. Attentive but not overbearing, and friendly. The filet mignon over spinach and the veal dish with spaetzle was excellent. The baked apple dessert with icecream (split among 2) was a nice finale for the evening.

Fantastic food and service

We was staying at the Caribbean Palm Village for a week in November 2011. We went to the restaurant on the area and fell in love! The food and the service was amazing, we felt so welcome and well taking care of. We moved to another hotell for our next week, but we went back to Scabeche to eat! We are looking forward to going back to Aruba, and we are absolutely going back for a nice meal at the Scabeche Restaurant.

Fabulous place for dinner

What a fabulous place for dinner!! I last went to the Screaming Eagle 3 years ago, the night before my mom had a beachside wedding on Aruba. I remember enjoying my meal there, and wanting to go back. My dining companion and I had a very hard time making our choices from their extensive menu, and the server suggested the chef's table. I ordered the seafood selection, and she chose the meat/game selection. Before we ordered, we were each given a sample of the gazpacho. It was perfect - icy cold, small chunks of the various veggies, delightfully seasoned. We each asked for a cup of the gazpacho along with our meal. We were NOT disappointed. Long story short, or it will take longer to write this than it did to eat the meal! We were each presented with a plate of 3 appetizers, including a soup. Mine - lobster bisque, a crab cake with a large calamari ring, a nice sized serving of tuna tartare on top of a crisp salad. Hers - a cream of potato soup, pate', and duck, also on a salad. The entrees were also served as small servings, four different items, totally mouth-watering. Every item was wonderful, and I wish I could remember them all. Just know that everything was perfect! Then the desserts! We were each served 5 different desserts, and if I tell you that the 3-layer chocolate mousse was great but the least interesting of all of the more-than-morsels, you must bear with me! A creamy flan, lemon pie almost like a key-lime, a tarragon parfait so incredible that we begged for the recipe, and a chocolate brownie so rich it made me wonder about my blood becoming chocolate! The service was sublime, we sat at a regular table, not at a bed. Every bite was fabulous, and we enjoyed our entire experience. The chef's table was very reasonably priced, and I look forward to another trip there.

a bit pricey for lunch

I took a newcomer for a little tour, and as we were driving out to the lighthouse, she said she was getting hungry. I had never eaten at the Italian restaurant up there, so we decided to eat there. I was disappointed to see there was no lunch menu, so we ordered from the regular menu. Our 'lunch' cost over $120.00, and there was no alcohol at this meal. No wine, no beer, just water. The food was good, the service was just okay. I have heard that this is a nice place to watch the sunset. Quite a bit pricey for its offerings at noontime.

superior meal

This was a welcome surprise. The Kitchen may be in an unexpected place, but I am sooo glad I found it! As a frequent visitor - my 14th time - I am on the lookout for new places, and asked the concierge what was new. She suggested The Kitchen, and I am glad she did. I ate the escargot appetizer, served in a tasty sauce on its own small loaf of bread. Then the Salmon, done exactly right, moist and flaky, on a bed of veggies. Served with rice, potatoes, and black beans on the side. I dumped the rice onto the plate to help absorb the sauce that the salmon was in - didn't want it to go to waste! Last was a coconut mousse, a perfect ending to a delightful meal. No service charge here, either. The total? a mere $25.00, to which I added what I wanted to, 20%, not what I was told to add. The service was sincere and enjoyable; my glass was kept filled without asking, and questions were answered promptly. I highly recommend this place for any night, any group.

Good food but Pay Attention to the BILL

Like the title said, Good food but pay attention to the bill. Waitress overcharged us and turned out she automatically upgraded us to a more expensive meal, without letting us know. Originally ordered Rigatoni alla Vodka ($21.50) with shrimp ($5 more she said which was fine) The bill came and she charged us with Scampi alla Fra?? diavolo($30) plus $5 shrimp. The shrimp is included in this scampi meal. We talked to her about it and she said that because we wanted shrimp so the sauce is different and so on and so on. Could not really understand what she was saying. it sounded like a rip off. just want to get out from this place. we kept on waving on the manager and he ignored us too. so ripping off people is their policy. Very sad. good food but it is a RIP OFF!!!!

Very poor service

I called to order and the lady who wanswered was rude and unhelpful. After asking her about the specials, she was ready to put down the phone instead of upselling. I felt that she did not want to assist. Until i asked her name which she did not want to divulge telling me, "you'll see my name when come and pick up your order!" She did not want to divulge her name, but said that she is the acting supervisor! Who would want to order when you hear that? She place me on hold for several times and finally closed the phone on a customer. That was a very bad experience! I ended up ordering in Dominos because Rita, the person who answered the phone was very helpful and willing to take time to assist.

Absolutely wonderful food and service

we ate here three times and it was perfect each time. I had the petite steak with mushrooms and mashed potatoes and I have never had a better steak anywhere. I was better than the Keg!! I tried the tuna steak the last time and OMG if was fabulous!! The service was increditible and we were all inclusive to the pricing was perfect. We had wine and beer and Red Bull and deserts and I am so full that it will take me a month to wear off the extra 5lbs. I would so recommend this restaurant and their staff!!

Always excellent!

We started a family tradition of going to Smokey Joe's on our first night in Aruba. We are never dissapointed. The ribs are awesome and the portions generous. We even forgive them for being Red Sox fans :) The dining is very casual and as an added bonus, you can people watch while enjoying your meal. The atmosphere is always electric. We love this place

fantastic!

We just spent our 30th wedding anniversary at Matthew's this past June and I must say it was fantastic! The staff, the food, the drinks, and the fun are always waiting for us when we arrive! My husband got together with Ricardo to plan our evening on the beach for dinner. It was absolutely wonderful! How could it not be! Our toes were in the sand, we watched an amazing sunset, and ate the most delicious food made for a perfect evening with our son and his girlfriend. Of course the martini that Ricardo made was great! We look forward to many more evenings such as that in the future! Thank you Matthew's!!! Kathy Clark

Best Pasta Dishes Anywhere

My wife and I have been to Aruba four times now and we always visit the fine staff at Hostaria da Vittoria for the best Italian food around. We have been to Rome and have experienced authentic Italian cuisine and thought we would never experience the traditional tastes and beauty of Italian meals. That is untill we found Vittorio's. They combine the light tomato sauce with different vegatables and meats, pesto on rigatoni, red snapper in a light sauce...boy I miss the place. Chef Vittorio, his son Marco, Alene and the other chefs provide an evening of not only great meals but a pleasant atmosphere. Try it, you'll love it!

Deception

I was a guest at a wedding reception and ordered a $100 bottle of wine. Shortly after receiving the wine I knew it did not taste as I had remembered but not being a conaseur I accepted it. My son noticed that the 2001 bottled ordered turned out to be a 2006. The waiter told me that they don't always update their wine list. I returned the wine. Moments later the manager arrived with a 2001 and explained that the cases got mixed up. I was enjoying myself so I let it slide. When I received my bank statement I found I was charged for two bottles of wine, one for $100 and one for $86. For such a highly rated establishment, I was shocked. Not only was I deceived, but robbed. I will have to find out if my hosts were also charged. PS I gave the waiter a 20% cash tip

Waay too much food!!

We've been to these types of steak houses before and this was great. Could have filled up on the salad bar; tons of great items. The steak & chicken were great, but unfortunately, if you don't remember to turn your card, they keep coming and coming and coming (like the Energizer bunny!). Service was excellent, but I ate too much! When you go, get the parking token from the bar; the machine downstairs was out when we were done dinner.

TOP NOTCH

Everything about this place is a welcome surprise. It is gourmet food in an upscale yet casual setting that is pure Aruba. Hidden back in the local neighborhoods, we arrived at night with all their lights twinkling. Just such a beautiful setting. Come early to relax with a cocktail at the bar or in the lovely courtyard. We arrived without a reservation and had to wait 30 minutes for a table, well worth the wait. We enjoyed very well made mojitos at the bar. The menu is full of so many choices and the specials alone filled another whole menu! Big wine list as well. My husband had the special stuffed beef tenderloin. It was melt-in-your-mouth tender beef with a rich delicious sauce, and a huge portion for $42. We would have paid way more than that in the states. I had a shrimp dish with some of the biggest shrimp I have ever seen, coated in a tasty almond/coconut breading. Hard to choose, but we went with the chocolate souffle dessert, perfection! The atmosphere is so lovely, the indoors brought outdoors. Attentive service, great food, highly recommended!

Will not be back

I was somehow greatly disappointed of this place as it had been highly recommended. Upon arrival the lady at the reception was not very hospitable once I told her that I had no reservation. She told me that I had to wait 20 to 30 minutes. If I see half of the tables empty and still have to wait 20 to 30 minutes I start worrying. Either they are understaffed, which will give me bad service, or they have so many reservations that I really have to wait a long time. I am still not sure which one it was. I waited at the bar and ordered a drink but not before I asked the bar tender to clean the counter. It seemed that the manager somehow found an empty table sooner than the promised 20 to 30 minutes and I was seated in less than 10 but wondering if this was just a sales pitch to sell me a bar drink. The service was friendly and efficient but the food was mediocre. I had the Grouper which was about the worst one I had in my live; Bland, tasteless - in addition to the awful presentation In addition I was wondering about the dress code. While I have to agree that it is hard to enforce a proper dress code (mentioned as casual elegance) I did not see many people dressed that way. Shorts were the norm, including slippers, even for men. I call this dress code 'beach bum code'. In addition the live music (sax player) was much too loud especially if one is seated only 2 or 3 tables away. I moved on to another place for dessert.

fun experience

My husband and I had a great meal, attentive service and personal conversations with the owner and his wife. He also provided a little entertainment in the Tony Bennett style of singing and selections. I had the seafood thermador. Consisted of /shrimp scallops and lobster. All entre's come with vegetables As an app. Husband had the Dutch pea soup, I had a side salad (it was big). Husband's entre was gouper. I had coffee and we shared key lime pie. We dined here twice and both times were wonderful. The wait staff was the best. First time we dined was with a party of 8 and then a party of 4. The Tournedo was great and we cut them with butter knifes. The Creamy Potato and Austrian Goulash soups were outstanding. Dinner Review

Our first time at Papillon! Reservations are needed and well worth the wait. From the atmosphere to the entire staff...everything was wonderful. Bread, which arrived before dinner, was delicious; well complimented by the bellpepper butter. Our dinners were excellent and made to order. Excellent wine list. We will be back next year! Hadicurari Restaurant

worst ever

This is a beautiful spot however the food was terrible. The most decent thing we had to eat was a ceasar salad, however the fish was mushy and the top layer of the salmon was covered in cream cheese. It was expensive and although the setting is very nice I would never return. It's a shame where Marriott built the restaurant to replace the old Hadicurari they didn't have more imput on the quality of the food.

Editor's Note: Hadicurari restaurant is not affiliated with or operated by the Aruba Marriott Resort. The reviewer has been informed of this fact.

Amuse Restaurant - NEW

Amuse is a brand new restaurant we happened on after meeting one of the waitresses at Tierra del Sol after golfing. This restaurant servers small dishes to be shared and we attempted to try them all. It was absolutely perfect. The owners are a wonderful couple and the owner chef used to be the chef at Flying Fishbone. Every plate on the menu was outstanding. Nice wine list as well.

extremely poor service

There were 14 of us for dinner. We arrived for our 6:30 pm reservation and were promptly seated -- that's where things started going wrong. It took 20 minutes for us to receive a wine list -- one hour to receive our appetizers and 2 HOURS until we got our meals. Tables all around us were being served -- some just as large as ours and who had arrived after us. When this was brought to the attention of a manager, we were told it takes time to cook "good food" ! No apologies, no "let me check on your orders" .... nothing. We got our dinner at 8:30 -- a full two hours after arriving!! When we said this was unacceptable and would probably not return, the manager promptly said that's OK, he does fine and doesn't need the repeat business. What a great way to talk to customers! So here I am, sharing this very unpleasant dining experience so others may think twice about giving them their business. With all the other great restaurants to choose from in Aruba-and there are plenty --we definitely will NEVER give Hostaria Da Vittorio our business again! NEVER!

service is questionable

For the most part, Gianni's food is pretty good....but most is way over priced. My husband and brother-in-law shared red snapper--which was a special of the day. It was $70 for the two -- and they each basically got a small filet from the fish! If you're going -- get the pasta cooked in the cheese wheel. That is unique and delicious, although still not reasonably priced. Secondly, our waiter did not like that we did not add any additional gratuity to our check. The restaurant automatically adds a 15% service charge (as do most)-- and we felt this adequate. . We had paid our bill and gave it to him when he felt the need to return to the table to tell us he gets NOTHING of that 15% .... which is hard to believe. I understand it is shared among the waiters, busboys, etc -- but for him to say he gets nothing is a lie. That left a bad taste in our mouth as we exited the restaurant. Very unprofessional to say the least.

Excelent Chinese

We found this restaurant reading the ArubaRestaurant site. The food was excellent. The service is absolutely great as well. The dining area is very nice and rich. The portions are huge. They bring you a plate full. Prices are very reasonable for Aruba. The dinners were under $30 each. The hotels consierges do not recommend it because the don´t pay fees for them. We do recomend this restaurant to every one that love chinese food.

Beautiful Ambiance, Great Food

Charming, elegant room with scenic outdoor balcony seating. Reminds me of an upscale NYC restaurant. The food has been outstanding every time we've visited. Our last meal there was in March 2010. The red snapper is the best presentation and quality on the island. The fish chowder soup is a specialty (almost a meal in itself) served in a bread bowl. The chef made sure everything was perfect. We will definitely visit again!

TOPS THEM ALL!!!

The Dutch Pancake House was by far the best meal and deal in Aruba--and we've been visiting this island for more than 25 years now! The extensive choices and variety of flavor combinations are unsurpassed when compared with most of the other restaurants and the offerings are by far the best portioned and reasonably priced. We tried their tomato soup, too, and were rewarded by an amazing culinary experience! So long, Madam Janette's: you were a terrible disappointment on this trip (again) and you will not see us return. We were not planning to visit Aruba again; but now that we've found The Dutch Pancake House, we may have to fly down there in the future just to eat there. Thank you for the wonderfully pleasant service and the truly excellent meals. The Dutch Pancake House RULES!!!

WOW!

This is the first restaurant at which we ate upon our arrival in Aruba. We did not have a reservation; but we were received graciously by the hostess and seated within minutes of our walking through the door because they opened another room to accommodate us. The service was beyond perfection as was our filet mignon and perfectly prepared, succulent shrimp entrees. The Ceasar salad was perfect, too. Seems like a simple thing; but if an establishment cannot prepare that simple salad excellently, you need not order anything further. Pricey...but so very well worth every dollar paid.

VERY disappointed.

We ate there several years ago and it was wonderful. The last 2 times, however, it was just awful. The pickled onions are always a winner; but the Ceasar salad was less then acceptable (how can you mess up a Ceasar salad???); the stuffed grouper special was very dry (actually had to use a knife to cut the fish!!!) and not as tasty as it could or should have been. The excessive cost was not worth the unacceptable quality of the meals. We won't be returning to this establishment.

Excellent first experience

We visited Amadeus for the first time in September 2010. I don't recall the exact date but it was approximately 9/24/2010. We hadn't heard much about it when another Aruba visitor said they had been the night before and they really enjoyed it. We have a car so the somewhat inconvenient location did not present a problem. We did enjoy the restaurant, the food, and the service very much. Everyone was welcoming and the menu had good choices for both those who wish to eat alot of yummy comfort food and those who are looking for lighter, "healthier" options. The food was excellent. We did feel we were lucky to have arrived at a time when we could get a table downstairs. The upstairs was lovely but there was no air conditioning and it was stifling (no one was seated there). Service was excellent. We look forward to going again in January.

Excellent Dining

We visit Aruba every May for at least two weeks. This coming year will be our 15th year visiting the island and we always make it a point to eat at Aqua Grill at least once during our visit. The food is some of the freshest and best cooked of any seafood restaurants we've ever eaten. The servers are friendly and so accomodating which helps set the stage for a wonderful dining experience. There are plenty other good places to eat while in Aruba, but Aqua Grill is the best.

Always an Excellent Meal

Madame Janette has been "#1" on our list of favorite restaurants in Aruba ever since our first visit there several years ago. We make a point of going back at least once every visit to Aruba. The surroundings are representative of island dining, al fresco. The food is always reliable and beautifully presented, especially the grouper with almond slivers. The filet mignon is the best I've ever eaten and I'm a steak afficionado!! And the service! Suzanne and the rest of the serving staff is especially accommodating, pleasant and always with a ready smile. A definite highlight to our favorite vacation destination!

Sucky sucky

Not so hot. Went there with high expectations....had the lasagna which I suspect they had an over abundance of taco meat...that was the meat that was used. Sum it up in one word...terrible! Pizza was cardboard like in taste and appearance. I would suggest eatting elsewhere.

Yummy

My husband and I were on our honeymoon and wanted to eat at a nice non chain restaurant. PAM PAM was recommended by a local and she said she goes there with her husband. We looked over the menu and pricing and all looked great. We took a Taxi from the Radisson, $9. The place was lovely and quite. Our food was fantastic!! The best food we had the whole stay in Aruba. I got the Lobster in truffle sauce and my husband got the Filet Mignon and we loved it!! Great night!

This is definitely the best restaurant on the island, and I have been to just about all of them!! In fact it was so good we went there 2 nights in a row and ordered the exact same thing!!!The food is absolutely delectable. I had the potatoe/leek/truffle soup and I really did want to lick the bowl!! We had twin fillets and the stuff grouper and split it between two people..delicious!! They serve their sides family style also delicious!! We never did make it to dessert, we were stuffed!! Cannot wait until January to return, we are going to make it there our first night!!

Great local fare

Have been going here since they opened, first met owner when he worked at Garufas, everything is first rate here, try the Calamari and the homemade sauces that they offer, everything is always fresh, drinks are well done and the deserts are great. Try the Tiramisu. Can't wait to revisit this October and November.

Daniel's - Great food and value

This was our best dining experience in Aruba! We visited on Friday night, and sat in the dining room. (Lack of the famous Aruba breezes made the outdoor seating area less inviting to us.) Very cozy room - lots of privacy at the table, nice atmosphere, limited menu (which we think is a good sign),focused on steaks and chops. My husband ordered the 8 oz filet mignon - which is served over vegetables with your choice of potato or rice or other side and a choice of sauce. He had the brandy-peppercorn sauce, which was delicious. I wasn't as hungry, so I ordered the skewered tenderloin appetizer as my entree. My husband's steak arrived - and must have been at least 10 oz, if not bigger, cooked exactly as ordered and delicious. The side potato was huge - and really, really good and big enough to share. But the real surprise was my "appetizer." I was served two skewers, 4 big pieces of tenderloin on each skewer, over vegetables! Plenty big enough for a meal - and then some. Absolutely delicious. And priced at $12.50!!! The entrees are also very reasonably priced, and very generously sized. We also recommend ordering a glass of the house wine - rather than ordering a bottle. Like everything else, it's a generous portion (at least 7-8 oz) and may be plenty... We had such a good experience, we returned the following night and received 2 complimentary glasses of wine with our dinner! It's an easy walk from any of the high-rise hotels - and the walk back is the perfect way to end the evening.

buffalo wings are the best...fried just right! we usually have them naked (sauce on the side) cuz they're already perfectly seasoned. had 2 dozen and shared a burger. burgers are usually very good but this time had a funny aftertaste...meat wasn't spoiled so perhaps it was the seasoning/marinate. they only allow 1 free refill for the iced tea! came back later during the week for just the wings (2 dozen) as a snack.

Great view, caught the sunset. Not a lot of people here yet cuz still early, 6pm. Ordered the whole grilled red snapper, $30 each. Was very good & fresh! Thought the fried calamari at $7.25 was a good deal but you get what you pay for...only a small bowl with about 15 pieces on top of a lot of shredded lettuce & carrots! Iced tea was $2.60 in a small glass and NO refills (as per our waiter, Julius)!!?? Soda was $1.95. Good thing iced water was free refills! Also had the 15% service fee added automatically as mentioned in earlier reviews and they still expected a tip! Service was average. If it wasn't for the excellent whole red snapper, we would not be going back (will have water next time :-)).

had dinner at Cooks on thursday, 9/2/2010. it was a special all u can eat sushi for $20. for an international restaurant not known for sushi, it was surprisingly very good! though the selection was limited, the sushi was different and fresh and tasty! the beef tenderloin roll with gouda cheese was excellent (and sushi is usually seafood)! amy had the filet mignon which was cooked just right and melted in your mouth! our server was jeancarlo who was very attentive and friendly. cooks is a little out of the way at the edge of town but it's well worth the trip...they have a parking lot and even provide free transportation to and from your hotel.

tasty dining

last night we had the good fortune to return to chef's tables for the first time in a few years. the decor is lovely and you have a choice of indoor or outdoor dining which is great. last night there was little wind so indoor dining was our choice. there were four of us and we started with various salads. two had apple and blue cheese salad, one had mixing bowl, and one had smoked salmon and shrimp. we followed that with Green crusted whole rack of New Zealand lamb, Fillet of Grouper with herbs, almonds and tomato, Grouper cheese crust and white wine sauce, and Chef's Tables Fish Trio. finally, each of us had 3 items from the list of tapas desserts and coffee or latte for all of us. the service was quite attentive and the foods were excellent and i think my only complaint was that after several trips there i have my favorite desserts. i would have loved a full portion on one of them. tapas are a great idea for sampling but sometimes you really want to stick with one item. three tapas does not make one real portion, lol. all in all, the place was in my top ten restaurants over the last few years.

a favorite that doesn't disappoint

we've been to linda's several times but this was the first time we ever got their pizza. hubby had a small ground beef and i had a small mushroom pizza. small is a 12" pizza. both were excellent with lots of toppings and cheese. we each had a soda and the bill was $21. the other couple we were with each had their tomato soup. they say that it is the best tomato soup they have ever eaten. they followed it with beef sate for her and a ham and cheese on baguette for him. they also got two orders of tomato soup to take back to their timeshare. their bill was $35. it not only a really tasty meal but one of the super low cost dining experiences.

an old place a new meal

having been to old fisherman and loved it, we were very happy when our friend mariza suggested it for breakfast. it seems they had recently started serving breakfast from 7-11 daily. we were pleasantly surprised. we each picked a #2 combo meal. it included a ham and cheese omelet or scrambled eggs, some fruit and other items on mini skewers, a small slice of melon, a baguette or toast in wheat or white, orange juice and coffee. the food was really tasty and the service was friendly and efficient. for $9 each it was a totally pleasant meal to start off a morning of shopping.

Wonderful as Always!

Tonight the six of us went to Wacky Wahoo for dinner. It was wonderful, as always. We were seated promptly and ordered right away. Three of us had salad and two people had the black bean soup. The salad was good-sized, with fresh lettuce, corn, black olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers. According to the people who had the soup, it had a smooth texture, was very well seasoned, and you could pick up the flavor from the ham bone. Our entrees included fresh grouper, red snapper, wahoo, swordfish, and the conch and shrimp stew. Everyone raved about their dinner entrees. All of the fish was cooked to perfection, and the steamed vegetables were wonderful. All of the fish meals came with a homemade salsa with balsamic vinegar, cilantro, onions, chopped red pepper, and a few other things; although some of my companions do not care for the salsa, I think it is wonderful and it really brings out the flavor of the fish. None of us had dessert, so I can't comment on that. The service was attentive, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My two complaints are (1) the size o the restaurant, and (2) the wine list. Wacky Wahoo is not a big place, and therefore it fills quickly and gets very, vey warm. It is also fairly tight seating quarters, which can be a little uncomfortable for most people. (Because of the tight seating, I am saying "no" for groups and for people with disabilities below.) The wine list is average, with White Zinfandel being the only thing served by the glass. I would suggest expanding the wine menu and offering more glasses and/or half-bottles of wine. The only other thing I would say is that they don't have a kids' menu. We did not bring our kids here earlier this year, even though we love the food, because we knew they wouldn't find anything on the menu they liked. They serve half-portions for kids, which is great if your kids eat fish but challenging if they do not. I would also suggest a kids' menu - it doesn't have to be fancy, just chicken fingers and fries or grilled cheese or something along that line. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and Wacky Wahoo remains one of the best restaurants on the island!

An All-Time Favorite

On Tuesday we visited Matthew's, which has become one of our all-time favorites. We have been there several times and have had nothing short of a wonderful meal every time. The food is amazing, the staff is attentive, and the view can't be beat. It is right on the beach at Aruba Beach Club and you can watch the sunset from your table. The variety on the menu makes it hard to decide what to eat. Tuesday's meals included ribs (Tuesday is Rib Night), chicken parmesan, lasagne, and pizza margerita. The lettuce salads were fresh and good-sized. Those who ordered the caesar said it was wonderful. My husband had the Insalata Caprese and said it was amazing. The potion was large, and the fresh mozarella just melted in my mouth. The portion of ribs was huge (two small racks), french fries, and homemade cole slaw. The ribs were so tender that the meat fell off the bones. Both people who ordered the ribs could hardly finish their plates. One of our dining companions described the cole slaw as the best she's ever had. Both the lasagne and the chicken parmesan were large portions, and were very tasty. I had the pizza, which was also very good. On other visits, I have had the grouper and it has always been moist, flaky, and cooked to perfection. Several of us had dessert, including flan and profiteroles. The profiteroles I had were amazing and the serving was so big that I couldn't finish it. The service was friendly and attentive, our water glasses were filled regularly, and out server was quite prompt with our drink orders and any refills. We have visited there with our kids as well, and they enjoyed it as well. This is definitely somewhere I would recommend for families, and for a romantic meal. Matthew's continues to be one of our favorites and somewhere that my husband often asks to visit twice.

Downtown location We had a short walk from the Renn to this "hidden gem". Still don't think people know its there.( its above Rumba) No wait for us. Lovely new location been there about a year, we visited them in 08 just after opening and went back in 09. Really good food, consistant, good service, nice location and building. Pizza is our favorite there. For our party of 8 ( 4 kids)we had 6 orders of fetucine alfredo and 4 pizza's. Not a speck left. All were excellent. Highly recommend...

Hidden Gem

We visited The Kitchen last night for the first time. It is a take-out restaurant located on the street behind Certified Mall. I was impressed by the simplicity of the place, the cleanliness, and the open kitchen. The staff were friendly, attentive, and willing to answer any questions. The menu is clear and straightforward. It is vey clean and all of the items in the salad cooler were clearly fresh and presented well. There were four of us and we each had a different meal, although we all started with the same salad. Each couple split a Greek Salad, and it was plenty for two. The salad was fresh and full of olives, feta, and tomatoes. One person had the angus burger, and it was the biggest burger I have ever seen in my life ($7). It was served on two huge slices of bread and was covered in sauteed mushrooms and onions, and it was described as "excellent" and "amazing." Another person had the farfalle bolognese ($9), which was also very good. One person had the surf and turf (the same person who had the surf and turf at Amadeus the night before), and she was very impressed with it ($14). The meat (which I sampled) was incredibly tender and very well seasoned, although it was sliced. There were twice as many shrimp as she received at Amadeus, they were cooked perfectly, and the surf and turf was approximately US $13 less than the preceding evening. I had the Grouper Milano, and it was very tasty ($10.50). The sauce was light and not overpowering, and the fish was cooked perfectly. The grouper and the surf and turf both came with sides of vegetables, rice, pan-fried potatoes, and Brazillian black beans. The sides alone would have easily been enough food for a meal, and they were very good as well. We did not have any desserts. We did, however, have a bottle of wine. Our dinner for two, WITH a bottle of wine, was $40. On a scale of 1 to 10 for value, I wish I could give it a 13. All in all, we were very impressed with The Kitchen and are all looking forward to going back! (I think we may all order the burger next time because it was so good!)

Re-Veal-ing Experience

I have been in the hospitality and food and beverage industry for the last 23 years. I have been in management for the last 16 years and have held many positions in both the front of the house (dining area) to the back of the house (kitchen). I have always worked for fine dining or hospitality organizations that operate on the very high end of service and quality regarding food and beverage standards. Fortunately or unfortunately, I can have a very critical eye when it comes to dining with regard to quality of service, quality of food and beverage being served, and the price being charged. The main purpose of our evening on Sunday, August 8, 2010 was to celebrate the birthday of a very dear and close personal friend. We had dined at Amadeus in June and had a wonderful experience with both service and food. I am writing this review because the service issues I encountered at Amadeus on the evening of Sunday, August 08, 2010 were so flagrant and offensive that I feel that they needed to be shared. Very seldom do I ever complain or bring service or food issues to the manager??s attention, as I try to focus my attention on the friends and/or family with whom I am dining. I know from personal experience that any restaurant can have an off night and can make mistakes. But flagrant displays that reveal challenges with regard to the integrity of the establishment and ownership are a different matter altogether. The theme of my review is a crucial ingredient that is paramount to the success of any restaurant: ??Truth in Menu.? After we were seated, Chef/Owner Thomas Mitter came by our table, welcomed us to Amadeus, and told us that anything was possible. According to the web site that I reviewed prior to visiting Amadeus, the Chef's mission statement for the restaurant states, ??I am a perfectionist! And I don??t do shortcuts! I check every ingredient of every dish before it is served, and if I??m not completely satisfied, it doesn??t leave my kitchen!" I was thinking that we were off to great start for what would hopefully be a very special evening. Our group received their salad course and two of our guests ordered small salads, while two other guests split a large salad. The small salad and the split large salad were all exactly the same portion sizes but had different prices attached to each item. Some of our guests found that inconsistency offensive. As an added service note, we did not receive bread service until after the completion of the salad course and we had to ask the server to please bring some to the table so that we could have it at least with our entrees. I ordered the veal chop special, and I thought that a nice compliment would be the peppercorn mushroom sauce that is served on the house specialty, ??Beef Tournedos Amadeus.? I asked for my veal chop to be prepared medium rare and to be topped with the peppercorn mushroom sauce. When the entrées arrived, I had several challenges with my veal chop: 1) I was not served a veal chop. I was served two long slender strips of meat that I hope were veal (perhaps a shank or skirt steak) but which did not resemble the classical bone-in veal chop that I was expecting. 2) The veal was prepared well done and not medium rare. In fact it was very well done, very over-cooked and very hard to cut. 3) There was no peppercorn mushroom sauce on the veal. I sent my entrée back with the server as I had asked for the veal to be prepared medium rare with the peppercorn mushroom sauce. Several minutes later the Chef appeared at our table and started addressing me in very condescending manner and said that he wouldn??t cook veal less than medium-well because it would cause stomach problems (including diarrhea) and it would be to tough to eat. The Chef also claimed that the server was "new" and didn't know that veal was supposed to be cooked well-done. I was very surprised by his comments, as I have had veal chops prepared medium rare many times and they were very tender and flavorful. (Additionally, my wife remembers our server being there when we visited Amadeus in June.) Because the chef was being very adversarial, I did not want to pursue this conversation any further in front of guests and I asked the chef to please prepare a New York Strip medium rare with the peppercorn mushroom sauce. I thought that would be fine and we could all move on with dinner and the birthday celebration at hand. When the steak arrived it was prepared properly but there was no peppercorn mushroom sauce as requested. Then, the chef had to come by again with his unfounded, condescending rhetoric with regard to veal being cooked well done. We ordered dessert and dessert was average and very over-priced for the quality that we received. The apple pie was average and we questioned whether it was homemade. We also ordered a vanilla ice cream garnished with strawberries, and it had four sliced strawberries that were green and not fully ripened. For the price of the dessert ($7.00 US) and a dining establishment of this quality, I expect perfect strawberries. The Chef then had to grace us with his presence once again at the end of dinner to again enlighten me on his view of veal preparation. He then offered us all an after-dinner drink ??on the house.? In our group of six people, only one person had a glass of wine during the whole evening. When we declined, he accused us of just being ??unhappy? so we eventually agreed. He brought us SHOTS of Espresso Vodka. Chef, for future reference, just because you like shots does not mean that everyone else likes shots. For the edification of readers of this review, I verified with three culinary colleagues that are all Certified Executive Chefs with the American Culinary Federation that a veal chop can be, and is best if, prepared between a temperature of medium rare to medium for best flavor and texture of this particular cut of eat veal. The USDA also approves the preparation of veal no lower than 140 degrees (medium-rare). After all of the inconsistencies during our dining experience, from the salads to the veal to the dessert, it appears that "Truth in Menu" is an ethical challenge at this establishment. My personal recommendation is if Chef Mitter is going to stay in the front of the house to please get some hospitality and sensitivity training. Otherwise, make an investment in hiring a really good Maitre D?? to manage the front of the house so that he can personally focus all of his attention on overseeing every dish that comes out of his kitchen per his mission statement.

Not as Good as Last Time

We first visited Amadeus in June 2010 with our kids (ages 10 and 8 at the time). Although there is no kids' menu, we had a wonderful dinner and immediately put this on our "must visit" list. We found it slightly difficult with one vegetarian child, because there is no kids' menu, no garden salad (this is where I learned about the salad, as mentioned below), and no vegetarian entrees. The service was impeccable, our water glasses were always full, our plates were cleared promptly, and we were repeatedly offered beverage refills. Tonight, we went as part of a group of six. The restaurant is a lovely place and there is much attention to detail in terms of the decor. Unfortunately, we were seated directly in front of the air conditioning vent and three of our six dining companions were freezing for most of the meal. Our server was friendly and one of our companions recognized him from a prior restaurant where he worked. He promptly took our drink orders and delivered them fairly quickly. Unfortunately, he never offered any of us refills (three iced teas, two sodas, and one glass of wine) for the entire duration of our visit. Our salads were good, although one couple each ordered a small caesar salad and one couple split a large caesar salad, and all four portions were the same size. The couples who ordered the caesar salads seemed perplexed by this. Also, there is no garden salad listed on the menu, although I knew from my previous visit that I could order one. We did not receive bread until we were almost finished with our salads and I had to ask for it. Five of our six meals were wonderful. Three people ordered the beef tournadoes (petit filets with mushroom and peppercorn sauce), one person ordered the chicken schnitzel, and one person ordered surf and turf. Although two of the three steaks were overcooked, they were still very tasty and we could cut them with a regular knife. My husband ordered the veal chop, cooked medium-rare, with the mushroom peppercorn sauce that accompanies the tournadoes. When the veal arrived, it was cooked at least medium-well. He sent it back, and the Chef-Owner came to speak with him and indicated that he never cooked veal less than medium-well because it could make someone sick. My husband indicated that it would have been helpful if someone would've told him that it would not be cooked to temperature before serving the entire meal, so that he could have ordered something else. The chef apologized and said that the server was new and did not realize that, and he offered to cook him anything he wanted from the menu. My husband ordered the NY Strip, cooked medium-rare, with the mushroom peppercorn-sauce. Although the steak was cooked perfectly, there was no sauce with it. During our meal, staff appeared to refill water glasses from time to time but we were never offered refills on our beverages. We all sat with empty plates for more than ten minutes before anyone offered to clear them. At the end of dinner, between the six of us we had three desserts and two cups of coffee. I am not a coffee drinker at all, but both of my companions were quite disappointed in the coffee, to say the least. It was thin and bitter. The deserts were all good...not outstanding, but good. The Chef-Owner then came and offered us all an after-dinner drink on him, and we were all resistant - mostly because we were full and tired. He thought we were all unhappy, so we all agreed and he brought us double-espresso vodka shots, which I thought was an interesting choice for a group in which the youngest diners were in their mid-40's and only one person had ordered any kind of alcohol with dinner. When we received our bill, we were charged for the veal rather than the NY Strip. At the end of the day, we were disappointed that the experience was not what we expected or remembered. The service was nowhere close to what we enjoyed in June. The food was okay, but we did not have that "Wow!" sensation when we left. Given our prior experience there, as well as the rave reviews Amadeus has gotten from others, I am hoping that they just had an off night.

Amazing Experience

We went to Pago Pago (at the Westin) for the first time last night to visit Chef Matt Boland. We met him last summer, when he was at Pirate's Nest, and enjoyed his cooking. We stayed in touch with him and were excited to hear that his updated menu at Pago Pago was going to be ready by the time we arrived. First of all, let me say that the service was amazing. I never had to ask to have my water glass refilled (which is one of the most important elements of service, for me), which was much appreciated after a long day of flying. The servers were attentive, accommodating, and willing to do whatever they could for us. One of our companions is allergic to ginger, and the staff made changes to various dishes as needed to that she could enjoy them too. Second, the food was absolutely amazing. One of our companions tried the Gaucho Steak Churrasco, and Chef Matt gave her all four sauces to try with it (portobello dark chocolate sauce, green pepper corn tarragon tamarind sauce, chimichuri, and expresso cilantro barbeque sauce). She described the all of the sauces as "breathtaking." Another companion had the Macademia Crusted Grouper, which I was able to sample. It was one of the best grouper dishes I have ever tried. It was cooked perfectly and absolutely melted in my mouth. My husband and I elected to order several appetizers instead of meals so that we could sample more items from the menu. We had the Ropa Vieja of Duck, the Sesame Crusted Tuna, the Fresh Corn Arepas, and the Thai Firecracker Spring Rolls. I did not personally try the duck, but my husband loved it. The spring rolls were unbelievable...they were full of shrimp and crab, and there was no vegetable filler. The citrus chili dip that came with them was, hands down, the best sauce I have ever had with spring roola anywhere. The arepas came with smoked salmon, and I didn't get to enjoy them as much as I should because I was getting full. I wanted to see how the salmon worked with the arepas (which are kind of like ground corn pancakes) but it was a wonderful combination. The sesame tuna came with humus, wonton crisps, and wasabi sauce. I don't like my tuna seared, so they cooked a few pieces medium for me. The taste of the tuna was wonderful, especially when paired with the humus and wonton crisps. For dessert, we had a sample platter, which I don't think was on the menu. Chef Matt had them make it for us. There were strawberries dipped in chocolate, tiramisu, a small cheesecake with raspberry sauce, vanilla ice cream in a chocolate cup, and another chocolate cake roll which I can't even begin to describe. All of them were wonderful and literally melted in our mouths. The wine list is impressive, and none of us ordered any mixed drinks, so I can't speak to the options available at the bar. The ambiance is lovely, and it is a perfect place for a romantic dinner. My only complaint is that there was not a basic "house salad" kind of option, just caesar, hearts of romaine, and a calamari salad (which looked wonderful, if you like calamari). I would liked to have had a lettuce salad option, but obviously did just fine without it. That is why I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 on food variety. In terms of price, it is definitely on the higher end of the spectrum for Aruba, but the overall dining experience makes it worth the money. I would definitely eat my last meal there.

A meat lover's heaven with great ambiance and serv

Had not back been to El Gaucho for a few years. Did not disappoint! Food was plentiful, great quality meat, excellent appetizers and dessert. Two strolling guitarists provided some light entertainment, performing requests for most tables. One guy got up and joined in - they were very talented at covering up for his less-than-ideal pitch!! Would definitely recommend the Sangria - a medium pitcher is MORE than enough for two and it definitely is more affordable than wine, and its delicious! I had a T-bone which was nicely marbled and delicious and my better half had a surf and turf that was equally good. Service was attentive but not over done, and nothing was ever missing or forgotten. Overall a very positive experience!

WONDERFUL! Fourth time there and will go back each time we visit Aruba. Noteworthly: Scnitzel - FABULOUS Catch of the Day - Yellow Tail - Presentation and Taste were out of this world. Shrimp to die for! Never a Disappointment at Madame Janette's. Note: We almost didn't go there this time because someone told us that the owner passed away and there was a new chef and the food was not as good!! COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. Waitress was not as good as usual, but the food was well worth it - she may have been new.

The Best!

We have been coming to Aruba for 15+ years and average about 4 visits a year. Papillon is our favorite. Whenever we arrive, this is always our first stop for dinner. Tina and her staff are absolutely the best. They are professional and very attentive. We feel the food and presentation are always outstanding! On this visit I ordered their amazing Tuna Trio as an appetizer and their special of the evening...WHITE asparagus with smoked salmon (WOW!) My wife had the risotto which was amazing, as usual. To tired for dessert...but, we'll be back later in the week!!

Overall a very very dissapointing experience.

Overall a very very dissapointing experience. This is clearly not a restaurant on part with establishments in most major US cities. The service was particularly poor. It was slow and disorderly, provided by a callous staff with poor understaning of the dining experience. The ambiance was chaotic. The food however was the largest dissapointment. The steaks were dry, flavorless and overall very low quality. Do not dine here.

The Best Pier Restaurant & Bar

Bugaloe is on DePalm Pier in between the Radisson and the RIU on Palm Beach. Amazing food from such a small kitchen and the bar is horseshoe style ready to serve great, reasonably priced drinks and food. The entertainment is wonderful as well in that most nights there is live music and dancing. The bartenders are friendly and Myrta(sp), a dutch sweetheart of a manager, is always smiling and tending to the needs of the patrons. It is simply the best pier bar I've had the pleasure passing time, and I consider it time very well spent indeed. See you there sometime soon. John Lajoie, Sterling, MA

AMAZING & Memorable!

My husband and I ate dinner here while in Aruba and it was the best meal we had all week...the host was great to help with reservations a few days before and when we arrived remembered us. They gave us a great table by the ocean and were very attentive to our needs. Wine and water came quickly along with a bread basket appetizer. It was so nice to sit with your feet in the cool white sand!! We almost didn't want our entrees to come because the view from the beach was spectacular as we watched the sun go down. Once the food came (we got the filet) it melted in your mouth and was delicious. The portions were good and everything was cooked perfectly. Throughout the dinner, our waitress came by to take special pictures with our camera for us with the ocean and the sunset at different angles and with different lighting...this helped us treasure the memory. If you are going to Aruba, we highly recommend this as a special night out!

Setting a New Standard

Cooks in Oranjestad is really setting a high bar with regards to inventive upscale cuisine, ambiance, attentive service and one of the best wine lists on the island featuring some amazing boutique wineries from Napa and Sonoma only found at Cooks. The quality of the meat that is served must be experienced to be appreciated as it is truly a cut above, featuring such amazing rarities as USDA Prime, Kobe, & Bison. ((( Must Try for Seafood Lovers ))) The Grouper Roulade stuffed with Salmon and served with the most amazing esoteric Saffron Sauce will truly please the most discriminating palates. The synergy between the quality of the cuisine and presentation of the plate is true culinary artistry at its finest, The ambiance is upscale yet casual as the decor is portrays a great marriage between such features as a Baby Grand Piano in the lounge area yet the entire establishment is filled with the most amazing upbeat video music that sets the tone for the amazing cuisine that awaits to be served and provides an energetic atmosphere that accompanies the cuisine like a fine wine. The service staff is attentive and well educated with regard to the cuisine on the menu and there dedication to a truly unique dining experience is very evident from start to finish. The bar staff is top notch with regard to creative flair and presentation of cocktails and proper wine service for the many great boutique Napa and Sonoma wines featured. Your trip to Aruba will not be complete without a trip to Cooks and you will be so impressed that you will want to go back a second time before you leave.

Great food & fun

We actually were at Matthew's several times during our 10 day stay. Very good size breakfast and lunch items at very good prices. Made too order and we were never disappointed on taste and quality. Dinner......filet mignon was excellent and a good prices for $30 compared to other places on the island. The lobster pasta was out of this world. Large portion with chunks and I mean chunks of lobster. Mahi mahi was also incredible. The bartenders and wait staff were excellent. Wednesday Karaoke night is a must see event. Amazing Dining "Journey"

Wow. From the moment I walked in I knew I was going to have a wonderful experience. I was dining alone, and sometimes solo women are ignored, but NOT HERE! My waiter Patrick was extremely attentive to all of my needs. The chefs were very quick in bringing around all of the delicious meats and refilling the side orders (loooove the garlic mashed potatoes and the fried plantains - could eat them all day!). Even the manager Hubert came around to ask if I was enjoying my dining "journey" (never heard it put quite like that before...). YES I WAS! My #1 recommendations are the garlic picanha and the grilled pineapple - I had that for dessert because after all the meats I was soooo full! I had such a fabulous "journey" that I had to come back again before I went home. I heard Amazonia is offering a la carte dining also - great idea if you're not a big eater. I will definitely make another "journey" to Amazonia on my next trip to Aruba!

I just LOVE this place for breakfast! The view is relaxing, the service is pleasant and the food is very good. What more can you ask for? The omlettes are well-prepared. My husband likes pancakes and enjoyed his. My ONLY comment would be a request to have toast buttered before it arrives at the table. Cold toast doesn't butter well. We had guests who wanted seafood and decided to walk in and try this place. Everyone who ordered seafood was very pleased with the selection. Our favorite restaurant since our honeymoon in 1979. We brought our children to Aruba to one of our favorite restaurants which was The French Rest. The favorite part when they went was "the bell ringing" and the OOO LA LA!!!. We were so surprised when we went back and they didn't ring the bell. We REALLY missed the "BELL RINGING"!! The food was outstanding, the service was outstanding, and everything else was outstanding!

Authentic Arubian

This was my second visit to Gasparito's. Family owned and operated. Plesant service and willing to do the little extra's to make your experience memorable. The wine list needs to be worked on,some of the choice on the list were not available...it took three tries to hit a white on the wine list that was available! Nice authentic Arubian home with a pleasant garden setting to dine in if you want to dine Al Fresco. A good place to try goat if you never had it before, very tasty stew. The food is good but not Gourmet. But you can enjoy an authentic local experience hosted by a family that aims to offer an true local dining for those who want to sample Aruba Cuisine.

Casual Elegance

We decided to try Pure Beach because we were tired and wanting to have a quick meal and call it a night. We ended up enjoying this experience more than expected. The seating is comfortable and the ocean breeze kept it very plesant. The service was very good even though the staff was limited and the restaurant was full. The selection choice is limited and we choose the Kobe Burgers and Fries with a glass of Pinot Noir, tasty and just what hit the spot after dining out more formerly the prior three nights. They had a kereoke night going and we ended up staying around an hour or more after dinner enjoying this experience. I will put Pure Beach on my list again the next time we come, as a nice change from the usual dining experiences we have had in Aruba over our past six visits.

Great Meat

We found this restaurant from just walking around the Eagle Beach resorts. We were looking to catch a quick bite for dinner. While wondering around the Bucuti Beach resort we found the Tortuga Grill. It was around 5:00 pm and the restaurant was totally empty - we were the only customers. I had the chicken quesadilla and my husband had the chicken caesar salad - both were excellent. And it was happy hour - two for one drinks! Porch setting overlooking the beach which did have people on lounge chairs - not the place for a romantic meal but definately good food and value. When we were leaving the place was filling up with customers and people were making reservations for later.

Fabulous

We found this jewel last year and couldn't wait to get back again in March. We have eaten at several places over the years but I am declaring that the meals I got here were by far the best meals I have had on the Island. (ever!) From the homemade soups, the dish presentation, flavor and temp of all items on plate. Passed on deserts because we love the banana splits at Amici's. If I had only one spot to dine, it would be here. Can't wait for 2011 to get here.

Slow Service-Great Pizza!

We decided to venture into the "touristy" section of town and found this place. We ordered drinks which were brought to us half an hour later and were watered down. The Bahama-Mama tasted like pineapple flavored water. Stick with the bottled beer. I have to say that the pizza we ordered was wonderful! I didn't care for the screaming kids either, but not their fault. I liked the misters!

Exciting and...what a salad bar!!!

First time for us, dining at a churascaria. A most pleasant surprise! The service was wonderful, the variety of beef sliced at the table was a unique experience. The beef was tasty, tender and well cooked. The salad bar lacked for nothing! A tip: Don't fill up on the salad bar! There's plenty to eat...the carvers keep returning to your table with more and more to eat..provided you signal them to do so.

A Wonderful Experience

The greeting from Bennie at Chalet Suisse, "Welcome home!", sets the tone for a most enjoyable evening's dinner. Their 'early bird' special is truly an unbeatable bargain in this day of increased prices and diminished size entrees. The wienershnitzel, sirloin steak or sea food are can't be beaten choices. The service is usually impeccable, although we've noticed that for groups larger than four people, the service just fails, for some unknown reason! So...if you are a group of four or fewer, you can rely on very attentive service and an excellent meal. For larger groups, the food is still excellent but service is lacking.

Not So Good

We ate at Taste of Belgium 12-20-09 for lunch. Almost everything was pretty much awful. I got a lobster bisque soup which tasted like someone had boiled a plastic spoon in the pot. The bread that came with it had an "off" taste to it....rather dry & moldy tasting. DH got a ham & cheese sandwich with a fried egg on top....again, the bread was dry & foul tasting & the fried egg was cold. The salad was fresh but the dressing was a little too sweet for our taste. The Belgian beer was excellent but expensive for such a dinky bottle. Won't recommend or go back.

false advertising

When my wife and I ate there last year, we ordered drinks in one of their Baby Yard glasses. The menu said it was a 16 oz drink. Well, we took the glass back to our resort, filled it with water and poured the contents into a measuring container. It held only 12 oz, not to mention it was overpriced to begin with.

A Hidden Gem

WOW ... what an incredible find. Tucked away is this incredibly beautiful restaurant that makes you feel like you have been transported to another place. I didn't even know that this inlet existed in Aruba. It was so peaceful with the sunset, a few yachts floating nearby and the flocks of birds flying by at dusk. Just too picturesque to describe. The food was great too. But the most outstanding aspect of this restaurant is the SUPERB SERVICE .... this is what makes patrons return !! Great job ... especially KEESE! There are not enough kudos. Worst Service on Island

Several of the cab drivers recommended this restaurant. Upon arriving, it looked interesting. It immediately lost it's ambience when we realized that the service was non-existent. When our orders were finally delivered, they were incorrect and the waiter wanted us to take orders that were cooked incorrectly....if something is ordered rare ... it should arrive rare. Not difficult. We were basically ignored ... had to actually go over to cashier and ask for check. On top of all that the bathrooms were ghastly. AND not handicap friendly at all.

we enjoyed it

So we went here for an after dinner drink and dessert (we were kind of disappointed with Madame Jeanette's service) and were pleasantly surprised. We had never been here before but will return next time (would have gone back this time but it was our last night). We had the Pineapple Tarte Tartin...YUMMY!!! The espresso was good and strong, the coffee was fresh and the port was tasty. Service was outstanding. We were not a high paying table (again just coffee and dessert) so they could have just served us and moved on, but they were fantastic, friendly and interested!

Not quite right

You can't deny their food is good, but I did not find it fabulous this time. They seemed to lose their edge. The ambiance is beautiful, and their menu is impressive. Their wine list ranges from reasonable to out of reach for many. It all seems to be a perfect mix. HOWEVER, the soup was bland, the surf and turf was mostly turf and a bite of surf and the lobster ravioli was very little lobster and mostly pasta. We ordered wine that was not available (unless we wanted it to chill for 15 minutes) and when we asked our server for a recommendation, she didn't know. Also, if I am spending 100's or even 1,000's on a bottle of wine, someone should pour it for me (after the first glass we were on our own). We asked for a dessert menu, which with 4 people and an after dinner drink, would come to at least another $100 on top of our over $300 bill, but were frustrated after waiting 15 minutes to order. We got the check and left. We then went to Papillon and had dessert and drinks there, which by the way was fabulous! I think the problem is that the staff is young and inexperienced. Places like Chalet Suisse always have the same, experienced people, here it seems the staff is not as invested in the restaurant.

I'm Done!

Tried it again after several years, just not the quality you would expect. Every time I go there (3 times in 10 years), I am up all night with cramps...and trust me I have an iron stomach. The Gaucho Steak is good but the rest was so-so. My daughter got a filet mignon that was terrible. She and I could not even chew it...no one even asked why she didn't eat it. So, for the money, go somewhere else. Go to Chalet Suisse, Bella Luna, or for half the price, Iguana Joe's YES Iguana Joe's is SO MUCH BETTER!!!

excellent...as always

As far as we are concerned, no place is like this place. It is delicious, clean, and friendly. Lets face it, you can have good food anywhere...good people are what make it special here. The food? Over the years, we have had just about all of the appetizers, the Rack of Lamb, Filet Mignon Madagascar, Chalet Chicken, Almond Crusted Red Snapper...you name it...we've had it down to the Toblerone Fondue and Creme Brulee. All have never failed to impress. More importantly, the staff is extraordinary. The owner's got it right! He must keep them happy (I HOPE)! Each time you go, you see the same faces that know what they are doing! From the moment Bennie recognizes you (often by name)and welcomes you home, to waiter and wine service, each person is more helpful then the last and NO ONE will walk away if you need anything...right down to pouring you water. They have refined excellent service without being in your face and rushing you out. This year we went twice, once with our children (they usually seat families with children in the same area, we like this since everyone is in the same boat) and once by ourselves since we had someone to watch them for the first time. I spoke with Rudolph but, Bennie, recognizing our name and noticing a reservation for 2, surprised us by arranged a special, private table, stating, you never come alone...let's make it special. As always, it was!

excellent...help them out

We love it here!We have been coming for years and they have never disappointed. Each year, its popularity seemed to be growing, which is impressive since there is another restaurant next door. The quality of the food is excellent, it is very clean and the staff is always friendly. However we noticed this time very few people dined with us. We asked the staff..who were SO friendly. Basically they stated that with the newer restaurants by the high rises, the restuarant market seems to be flooding. So while in the past they were growing, now they seem to be suffering. Regardless, the quality of our food was fabulous...calamari like butter, grouper that was light and full of flavor, risotto stuffed with shrimp, excellent pasta and chicken dishes as well. Dessert was also wonderful. Oh...they also accomodate children by giving half orders of ANYTHING which is awesome when you have two children like mine...One likes plain pasta and the other likes escargot and risotto...once again very accomadating. Then only improvements we could think of...More advertising! One of our friends at the resort stated it best when they said...Oh we went there,it was excellent but there was only a few people there. No one knows about the place!

You Must Experience this one

This is beyond a doubt the BEST restaurant we have experienced in Aruba. We have been to a number of restaurants in Aruba on our numerous trips to the island. And we give this restaurant a 10. From the moment we set foot in the restaurant the experience was the best. The staff is excellent, friendly, helpful and fun. The food is absolutely outstanding, the presentation is the best. We had sweetbread appetizer, sea bass entree and an amazing desert which I am not able to recall the name of. Everything was excellent. Please try this restaurant and definitely make reservations.

Ruth Chris in Aruba is a far cry from any that I have been to in the states. Our meal was overpriced and the rib eye was just fair. My wife's filet was also just fair. you can get a great steak and save $15.00 per item at Chalet Swiss. This Ruth Chris is off my list.

Muy excelente!!

What a delicious surprise on Palm beach! My husband and I were introduced to this delightful patio restaurant by Raul, a most courteous and gracious staffer. We dined on the shrimp and chicken wok offerings, both were made with fresh and well seasoned ingredients. The free beer and wine - bonus! Raul was delightful, his sparkling personality truly enhanced our dining experience. We ran into a family studying the menu as we left and convinced them to try it. I'm sure they were as pleased as we were! Estupendo! Gracias, Raul!

Great Calamari

We love this place. It is very casual and reasonably priced. The Calamari appetizer is one of the best fried calamaris I have had. It is right in town with a great view of the cruise ships. Good service and a fun place! For those with disabilities, it is on the 2nd floor of the shopping area in town. There is a flight of steps to climb - not sure if there is an elevator in the area.

Elegant Dining

This is a must-do every year for my family. The service is superb, the ambiance is lovely, there always seems to be subdued live music to enjoy while eating, and the food is VERY good! A favorite dish for my family is the Burgerloin (two beef tenderloins stuffed with mushrooms, cheese, etc.). It isn't a cheap meal but you definitely get what you pay for. Try it! But make reservations with advanced notice. This is a busy place which fills up quickly. Note that I think there are some tables which might be difficult for those with disabilities. Wheel chairs or those with walking dificulties might have trouble with gravel-covered ground in the restaurant. However, I didn't notice many (if any) steps and the restaurant is on one level throughout.

Best Tables

Since they opened, Chefs Tables has never disappointed. We knew we could request and when we made our reservations we did just that. The chef, who was once chef at Marandi, makes the most wonderful mustard soup and I couldn't wait to have it again. The veal osso bucco is melt in your mouth good and once again I asked them to prepare it for me and they were kind enough to do just that. We stay, in Aruba for three weeks every November and make it a point to go there once a week. Every meal has left us wanting more and the service is almost as good as the food.

Wonderful

What a wonderful experience. My husband had a delicious pork tenderloin and I had my favorite -almond grouper. There was enough leftover for a nice lunch the following day. The setting could not have been prettier, the service was prompt, friendly and efficent. It is obvious that the servers are well-trained. Entertainment made the meal even more pleasnat. No doubt it is our favorite restaurant on Aruba.

Consistency...

I'm not sure why the rating for The French Steakhouse is thus far (after two reviews) so low. The biggest issue with Aruba restaurants is consistency. One night great, the next terrible. Regular visitors know the better restaurants and this is one of them. This is a restaurant with a storied history and part of the Aruba landscape since the beginning. Although there are prettier venues, the food is always great; well prepared and presented. The first time I had their Churrasco steak, I wondered why anybody would go any place else for a steak in Aruba. I typically have dinner here a couple of nights during my fall stay, and often end my nights at the bar for a Applestudel and Don Juan coffee. Chris is an anchor in the dining room and always a pleasure to see and speak with each year.

one of the worst ever

This was by far the worst restaurant I've been to in my 6 visits to Aruba. Service was VERY slow and the waiter was rude. The food was mediocre at best. We weren't in a rush and didn't mind waiting, but an hour wait for apps and another hour for dinner is a bit much. The food was not good. Out of 6 meals, two were eaten. The manager apologized and told my husband she was taking off 2 meals (despite that we didn't eat 4 of them) and the vegis (which were cold, part frozen, and probably birds eye). The whole experience had become so stressfull that My husband just wanted to leave and signed the slip. When I looked it did not seem to me the bill was adjusted. I went back the next day to ask, and the manager was rude and would not get me a copy of what we were charged. We will be contesting the charge.

An Island Favorite...

Although I did not make it to the Fishone this year (09), it has been a favorite of mine since 1989. I've never had a bad experience, and on one occasion when it rained unexpecedly they quickly and efficiently set tables and moved everyone indoors with minimum disruption. I've always found the service exquisite and the food incredible. I've sent many first timers here who all rave about the restaurant. Looking forward to 2010!

A Chef away from greatness!

I hate to spoil the party because this restaurant has such great potential. My first experience was early Oct. '08. Even a reservation would not get me seated. After checking in and being ignored for 45 minutes, I was finally able to convince the hurried bartender to serve me three glass of wine for my party. A half hour later, and still unnoticed in the staging area, my party finally walked next door to the Fishbone for a spectacular meal. I later email the restaurant to relate my experience and apologize for leaving, but they never answered the email. In the spring of '09 a friend and their party of six all loved the venue but expressed disappointment with the quality of food. Putting my own prior experience aside, discounting my friends disappointment with the food, and with an awareness the restaurant had only been open a month prior to my first experience, my party of six decided to give this beautiful eatery another shot. Unlike 2008, the restaurant although busy was less frantic, the staff more comfortable and attentive, we were greeted and seated promptly. Our waiter was humorous and could not have been any more welcoming and helpful. We ordered and were served with efficiency but forgive me if I don't elaborate on what we all ordered for appetizers, for the entire experience was overshadowed by our entrees. Five of us ordered fish, and one filet mignon. All five fish entrees were overcooked and dry, the filet ordered medium well was barely cooked less then rare. All six entrees were returned to the kitchen and within a reasonable amount of time prepared correctly and returned to our table. Once home and relating my recent experience to my friend who has expressed disappointment with their meals back in the spring, could not believe how closely our experiences matched. Their fish too was well overcooked and meat entrees undercooked, but none complained at the time. This is a great concept restaurant, beautifully decorated and inviting and could be described as a venue "to die for". But despite the concept and all the attention to aesthetics, and its artsy decor, until they put a chef in the kitchen, it??s just a pretty place!

Salty- not so great

The ambiance was excellent but the food did not live up to the atmosphere or the price. We were really looking for Italien and came away very dissapointed. The wait staff were excellent and responsive and they were all in Halloween costumes and it added to the experience. We both had the veal Parmesian and it was so salty we could not eat it. I ordered a Wild Mushroom Risoto that was excellent. For the portion size, very salty (and they did nothing about it) and $125 before tip we will not be returning.

Relaxing and Tasty

This was such a breath of fresh air on the island with all the choices and the frenzy that can at times accompany it. It was tucked just off the main beat and path and that made the sidewalk cafe setting so relaxing. This was truly a step into a European cafe. The atmosphere was relaxed and the wait staff were excellent. They were so friendly. I had the Boeuf Bourgiugnon and my wife had the Chicken Sate. We took leftovers back to the hotel for the next day. Good food and great service- no regrets.

Savory Meal

We had a wonderful meal here tonight. It was a bit pricey but all the food on the island in the restaurants is pricey. My wife and I both had the Crab Bisque which was excellent. It was top shelf. My wife had the Mahi-Mahi and I had the Seafood Pasta Moby Dick and both were excellent. They were out of bread so there was nothing to munch while waiting for the meal but we were full when we left. It was a great last night on the Island meal. We come every year and will be sure to make this a regular stop we look forward to.

Great Find!

We stayed at the Bucuti Beach Resort so we were just trying to find something quick for a late lunch. This was a good find right next door at the Aruba Beach Club. Since it was about 4:30 when we went over we were the only people in the dining area, but the bar was hoping. We had meals off the lunch menu. It was also 2 for 1 drink happy hour. We shared an appetizer of Shrimp Loempia (Spring Rolls) which were very good and I normally don't like spring rolls. There were 2 large rolls with a dipping sauce and a bed of lettuce with tomato and onion slices on the side. A very satisfying appetizer! I had the shrimp quesadilla and my husband had the fresh Caribbean grouper sandwich. Both were very good for a good price. Definitely not a romantic dinner type place as there are people on the beach right in front and you and kids running back and forth, but it's a good lively atmosphere and there was live music.

Best ever!

I can't say enough about how good the food is at Texas de Brazil! The meat melts in your mouth! Make sure to go to their website and join their mailing list. They send out coupons for 2 for 1 and 50% off bills and all kinds of good stuff. With a coupon my family of 4 went and ate the best food we've ever had until we thought we couldn't move and paid only $115 including tip! If you like meat you will love it! If you are a vegetarian.....find somewhere else to go eat! Whatever you do though....don't waste your money going to Amazonia down the street. There is no comparison!

Would be a hit in Cuba!

On Sept 08, 2009, my wife Sandy and I found ourselves once again soaking up the experience that is Cuba's Cookin'...the historic building, the individual rooms that provide a virtual color-slide of technicolor images that leaves me, at least, awestruck...the food, the art, the over-all feeling of being in another time and place...I mean, for god's sake, this place would be a hit IN Cuba..thanks again, wishing I was still there, but looking forward as always......PS, the Midnighter is still the best sandwich in the world....Jerry

What a wonderful evening we had at Matthews. We stayed at Bucuti so we were glad to find something this good so close. we loved the atmosphere....we sat at a 2 seater right at the back next to the beach. We started with the Caribbean Seafood Soup, wonderful soup!! Big chunks of seafood. I had the Lobster Pasta. The presentation was neat, as it was served on the 1/2 shell of the lobster. It was just as delicious. Husband had the all you can eat ribs. Those were very good as well. Everything was great and the service was good as well. We went at about 8pm at night and were seated right away with no reservations.

cute little place

We stayed at Bucuti last week and for our last night wanted to go some place close and cheaper. We had an 8pm reservation but got there at 7:35 (it was a shorter walk then we expected) and we were seated right away. The service was a little slow, but they had a large group under a tent on the grass. The waiter was hard to understand but all our food was right. I had never had Keshi Yani before so I don??t know what its supposed to taste like but I really liked it. My husband had the special which was a grouper fish. That was very good as well. I had the cheesecake and he had the key lime pie for dessert. The cheesecake was good and he liked the pie. Overall it was a good experience and we'd go again.

Overall Excellence!!

What a great place!! Everything was wonderful from the service to the food to the atmosphere. The September special they have going on made dinner mush less expensive then we thought. It was $25 for an appetizer and entree or entree and dessert. There were very few items that were not part of the special. I had the Caribbean Crab Bisque as my appetizer and wow, what a good bisque!! It gave the bisque I get in the Outer Banks a run for its money. For my entree i wanted something nice and light so I had the Shrimp a la Provencal. Wonderful meal!! My husband had the Seafood Pasta Moby Dick. That was also very good!! He got the Double Chocolate for dessert. By far the best dessert we had the whole week, and we had some good ones. We will definitely be going back to Moby Dicks next time we visit Aruba!!

Sushi Fun!

My sisters and I went out to try this recently opened sushi restaurant, we shared a wakami salad, and we ordered 3 different types of rolls; double crunchy roll, gaucho roll and Philadelphia roll and we shared that too. Gaucho roll is something new we had tried and I loved it, double crunchy is far the best we had and Philadelphia was also very nice. For dessert we had fried ice cream. The ambiance was great. Service was excellent. Very reasonable price. We will definitely pay another visit soon.

Gelato

This is by far the best gelato available!! Try their special treats with liquour over the top !!! They are truly the best. We go to Aruba every other year for a week and go to Amici at least 4 times during that week.

One of the Best

We went here our first night in Aruba and returned twice more in our 2 week stay. They have real Italian food. My favorite is rigatoni and eggplant. The veal chop parmagiano special was a real treat. We went back with a gang of 12 including kids and it was just as great. We'll be back.

Tapas

We went there and had Tapas for our meal. I ordered 5 different ones and shared 3 others. It was great going to dinner and ordering appetizers in small enough portions to try multiple items. We will go back.

Very Poor

Was very disappointed. On my suggestion our party of 12 went here because I had been here before. I ordered pan fried snapper. I could not cut it with my fork. I could not cut it with my knife. I sat there waiting for the waitress to return. 15 minutes into the dinner, the waitress finally returned and I gave her the dish and told her to tell the chef my snapper tasted like cardboard. She wanted to bring me something else. At this point I was too upset. I ordered a diet coke. When she came around again asking for dessert orders, I just asked for my diet coke. They took the snapper off the bill.

Poor

We sat indoors which was our first mistake. The three 2 Ton A/Cs kept the place cool but increased the noise which was unbearably loud. The noise from normal conversations added to the noise. We sat 20 minutes befor a waitress showed up for our drink order. Our appetizers came about 20 minutes later. Clams oreganato were tasteless and contined shell fragments. My veal came and it was cold. Asked for more bread and it came too late. My Capuccino was luke warm.
